Faculty and students of the City College culinary department catered to the Connoisseurs’ Circle Pavilion of the 31 annual Taste of the Town hosted by the Arthritis Foundation.

Lab teaching assistant Susan Schneiderbauer and Gateway tutor Christine Mock helped volunteer in the kitchen.

“They were pushed to their limits with this,” Mock said. “It’s a lot of little details. Given that, I think they did an awesome job.”

Gary Menes, one of Los Angeles Magazine’s Top 20 Chefs of 2012, also volunteered.

“We would like to thank City College who’s helping out with this very worthy cause,” Menes said. “… [City College] has done an extremely great job here.”

The staff fashioned five courses for the Pavilion, including sourdough donut holes with summer berries, candied almonds and chocolate malt sauce. Menes used his 18-year-old starter for the doughnut holes.

Ticket sales, auctions and donations helped fund the Arthritis Foundation and Camp Esperanza, a summer camp for children with arthritis and related diseases. There are 300,000 children with juvenile arthritis in the United States.

A black Fender Squire Bullet Strat guitar signed by all five members of The Rolling Stones was auctioned off for $3,200.

C.J. Ward, KEYT News Director and Anchor hosted the event.

Various local restaurants, breweries and vineyards were among those present at the Taste of the Town, offering gourmet samples from their respective businesses.

Arlington Tavern, Opal Restaurant and Bar, Pascucci and SoHo Restaurant and Music Club were among the restaurants represented.
